Continuous Improvement

CAN YOU IMPROVE ON OEM QUALITY? WE THINK SO. THAT’S WHY WE’RE CONTINUALLY INVESTING IN R&D TO GIVE OUR CUSTOMERS BETTER VALUE.

See how we’re making parts better

These are some of the examples where BTP ingenuity and engineering excellence is helping customers get better value from their earthmoving machines.

D10T Transmission

  • BTP supplied a D10T transmission to a customer, which sustained a severe failure due to a torsional overload of the output shaft. The output shaft fitted during the previous rebuild was a new OEM.
  • Extensive metallurgical and engineering analysis was conducted on the shaft and it was concluded the shaft failed due to torsional overload.
  • In order to reduce exposure to future failures BTP developed a modification.
  • The first transmission BTP modified in such a way was in early July 2011 and has now exceeded 8,000 hours of service life. We have more than 15 transmissions now in service.

D10T 4140 Billett EQ Bar

  • Caterpillar OEM cast equaliser bars were developing issues with heat zones and metal fatigue with continuous repair, which resulted in an inconsistent repair that resulted in breakages in extreme conditions.
  • BTP’s situation was to discontinue the exchange program or be able to offer our extreme service customers with options.
  • The result is our 4140 Billet bar.
  • Modelling programs resulted in a 90% increase in strength.

D10T Track Frames

  • With customers and BTP facing continual problems with internal tube cracks and floor integrity issues it was our business to improve the product and limit our exposure with warranting the OEM product.
  • We invested in Mechanical and Metallurgical engineers to come together and aid us in the floor and tube support system and all Q&A processes for the modification.
  • Not stopping there, we also improved on the OEM track adjusters by installing more internal wear rings to support the sleeve which has greatly extended track adjuster life.

Track Frame Solutions

It starts with the disassembly process and the way we go about our strip down, inspections and recording. Not only establishing repair requirements through rigorous crack testing procedures but always looking for ways to improve the product.

BTP’s own internal Quality Assurance program follows each component 100% of the way through the repair and assembly process.

The final result of this complex and rigorous process ensures a quality product that our customers can depend on.
